On a very cold and windy day a full squad of 18 plus parents and Committee staff travelled to the first away game for the U16s League Rep Teams away to Cambridgeshire. A warm welcome from Cambridge coach and manager Claire with great facilities and hospitality, gave a good start to a promising first game.
A minutes silence to honour Jenny Kerwood a young player for the Essex Leagues Hutton Ladies Team, who unexpectantly, tragically passed away during the week, was held and began a poignant start to a fantastically fought game of female football.
The wind played a tough opposition in the first half for both sides making it hard for either team to play with control but as time wore on the girls settled into their game and some great passing play saw Essex hit the back of the net
making it 1-0.
The score moved into a draw with Cambridge finding the net through some fine attacking moves round a wind beaten Essex defence. This quickened Essex into action once again with a good strike to make it 2-1 Essex.
With the wind in Essex s faces they pilled on the pressure and played some fantastic football which saw the game finish 3-1 to Essex with a well worked goal, which proves that players of this standard who normally play opposite each other, can rise to the level of achievement they did today.
Every player who represented their County League today should be very proud of their commitment, talent but most of all sportsmanship.
To bring a collection of girls from various teams within the League to travel such a distance and such a show of respect for each other, ability to play wherever asked and challenged, all with a display of team work, skill and effort from every girl present is a remarkable achievement for all involved.
Well done Girls, Parents and Supporters, Essex is proud of you all.
Goal Scorers: Kelly Stubbington; Tyra Poole; Rosie Coe.
Many Thanks to all............................ RIP Jenny, we hope Essex did you proud Today:)
